Turn Smartphone into portable barcode scanner

A barcode reader (or barcode scanner) is an electronic device for reading printed barcodes. Like a flatbed scanner, it consists of a light source, a lens and a light sensor translating optical impulses into electrical ones. Additionally, nearly all barcode readers contain decoder circuitry analyzing the barcode's image data provided by the sensor and sending the barcode's content to the scanner's output port. For portable barcode reader which built in memory and data collection it called Portable Data Collector (PDC). Now everyone who has QR Codes technology by their hand, we talk here the smartphone is common to reads QR codes and the mobile will connect the internet to finds the key code or directed to a website contains information which embedded on the QR codes. A survey by Scanbuy found that mobile bar code usage jumped 700% in 2010 compared with 2009. So the use for the portable barcode readers are going to be bigger next year as the more people getting used with the smartphone capability to read barcodes.

If you have a store, you might want to check your current inventory. At this moment the good quality for PDC or Portable Data Collector is still cost high, so we need some alternative for reading barcodes. So what are the options for replacing PDC from tight budget point of view? We can use portable Bluetooth scanner that can run 5 to 10 meters away from the main computer which is used to manage the inventory. But if the function we need is just simple, for barcode reading we can use Smartphone.

How can we do that?
As of this writing, there are already new technology in smartphone to read devices via USB, called USB on the go, so the modern mobile phone able to read device that attached via USB. Nokia N8 and I believe other mobile brand that has its own USB on the go technology has the ability to detect the handheld USB barcode scanners and run device and read information on barcode images, and sent to the phone...GREAT!! USB barcode readers work like USB keyboards. N8 powered the device fine too. Now we have the portable handheld barcode scanner to replace PDC in different way, so you can put your product info direct to mobile phone, it will handy for simple data checking, maybe wont replace fully function of PDC but it is practically can be very useful.

Whilst smartphones are capable to read 2-D barcode standard or the famous word is QR Codes (for "Quick Response" or two-dimensional bar codes which is designed to be scanned by a smartphone), the 1-D barcode standard is still rapidly use for store stock data which puts on every products, so the need for 1-D scanner is still going to be a long time. While cell phone cameras without auto-focus are not ideal for reading some common barcode formats, there are 2D barcodes which are optimized for cell phones, as well asQR Codes and Data Matrix codes which can be read quickly and accurately with or without auto-focus. Tech experts believe the 2-D codes are on their way to becoming marketing and sales tools as ubiquitous as Facebook or texting and as familiar as they already are to people who live in Japan, Europe and, to a lesser extent, bigger U.S. cities such as New York and San Francisco.

Important things before we build the wooden house

What is the important things before we build the wood house?

First, we need a land that stable enough to hold the weight of the wood house, why is it has to be such important? For the wood house we need the heavy and strong wood which is weatherproof, at this point we choose teaks for the best of choices out there. The teak wood is mostly heavy and strong, it grow around 30 years to be perfect weight and great wood density. The more weight of the wood the better of density level of it, yes the teak woods are so heavy!!! So, the foundations should be strong enough to hold all of the building part or the whole wood house.

Second thing important is the declivity or slope of the land we choose for the house, if we put our house right in deadly slope or let say above 20 degrees, if we do this then it could be risky so the foundation of the house will needing more deep, but remember don't ever build your house in such dangerous area that near the washout or landslide area, the contour of the land we must take good look carefully see if there's any straight deep line that will cause landslide take a look your area for the dislocation line by naked eyes, if you see the sign then you should NOT build in that area.

The next thing you need to know is how you are going to build the wood house? By knock down or on the site project build. If your location is too far way up to the hill, the knock down wood house is a good choice, but if your area near the highway and easy to bring logistic, tools and machinery for woods you can select the on site build.

The last thing before you decide to build wooden house is you need to consult your expertise in wood and wooden house craft-man, because you are planning to build the house that would last long, if you choose the teak woods, it is a right choose, let say 40 years and still immovably...

Once you have obtained a building plot with the necessary permissions, an architect is essential for designing a dwelling to your specific requirements, to manufacture the wood house company uses these plans to develop drawings, after settling agreement you are ready to build the wood house whether by knock down shipment or in site project.

Like we discuss before, the most important first is to prepare concrete base or the foundation. With traditional construction methods all stages of the build process are heavily dependent on each other, e.g. foundations need to be complete before the walls can be started. Foundation preparation for the wood house will require experts to eliminate potential problems with measurements and  allowing you and your wooden house company to plan more efficiently for the wood-frame erection.

For the house we strongly advice the teak wood, because teak wood is weatherproof and it will go straight for years and it is a hard wood type and the most important the wood itself is just too hard so the termite will never ruin your days, it is a great investment. Teak wood is remarkably durable, but you can always choose yourself of your own taste of wood, as long as it's hard and save from the termite, because our experience on this, in the real life not all the hard wood strong enough from the termite. The luxury wood house cost high so you must spend the investment on the right hands, or else the house will not even last for one year, it is a serious work to get it right, to choosing the best wood for houses.

Laptop bermasalah diakibatkan oleh charger

Dilihat:

Teman saya waktu itu (sekitar tahun 2010) menghubungi saya karena notebook yang digunakannya lambat sekali dan sensor touchpad-nya menjadi tidak responsif, selain itu status charging nya aneh.

Gak lama, aku datang dan mengecek laptop HP-Compaq CQ40 milik temanku itu. Dugaan pertama, batre bermasalah, mungkin itu penyebab charging-nya ga penuh-penuh & kadang-kadang ga charging.

Tapi setelah batre di cabut, respon di touchpad tetap tak ada perubahan, ga karuan, loncat-loncat, lalu dicoba diganti dengan USB mouse, nihil, hasilnya tetap sama, laptop pun tetap lemot alias lambat sekali...wuuuih.

Lalu batere dipasang kembali, tetapi kali ini plug charger ke laptop dicabut...dan akhirnya, semua normal, hanya saja batre dalam kondisi hampir habis.... ketauan juga, sumber masalah ada di charger. Lalu charger diganti dengan yang baru, walaupun bukan ori alias kw, spek nya sama dengan bawaan laptop, yaitu 18.5V 3.5A – 65 Watt, singkat cerita semua beres.

Hampir dua bulan berlalu, temanku itu datang lagi dengan masalah serupa, tapi kali ini setelah dia ganti/membeli sendiri diluar kota (karena ketika dinas luar charger kw nya meletus keluar asep karena kepanasan akibat 24 jam ga di cabut-cabut :)) Chargernya di ganti dengan charger kw serupa, laptop tetap lambat & mouse ga responsif (normal kembali setelah charger dicabut atau power mengunakan baterai).

Kemudian saya coba dengan charger original asli yang lumayan mahal, akhirnya semua normal kembali. Entah apa sebabnya kemungkinan kualitas kw yang kedua tersebut bisa jadi kualitasnya rendah atau berbeda speknya, dan memang beresiko menggunakan charger kw karena bisa memperpendek umur baterai. (kami di C8 Com selalu merekomendasikan menggunakan charger ori)

Diluar semua kualitas yang bagus dari laptop keluaran HP, charger tipe jarum ini rentan sekali, mulai dari jarum patah, kabel terbakar, dan terjadinya error seperti yang dialami temanku tadi. Charger jarum HP 65 watt ini memang sangat berbeda, perlu perlakuan khusus.

Namun pada kenyataannya hampir semua merek laptop memiliki keunikan tersendiri pada tiap charger, mulai dari bentuk colokan/plug yang besar berikut jarumnya atau yang plug kecil tetapi bila rusak sangat sulit mencari pengganti part/plug colokannya saja karena tidak umum. Bahkan kabel dari AC / stop kontak menuju charger itu sendiri, selain tipe 3hole ada juga bentuk colokan di  beberapa tipe laptop cukup aneh sehingga bila kabel AC tersebut rusak sulit sekali menemukan gantinya. Pengalaman unik saya dengan charger keluaran DELL, kadang-kadang laptop bisa menyala hanya dengan menggunakan charger original saja, charger kw ga berfungsi alias charger tidak dikenali di bios. Begitu juga hal-nya bila charger ori mengalami kerusakan, bios tidak mengenalinya karena chip ID pengenal charger rusak, lihat disini. Ataupun bila charger berhasil menyalakan laptop, batre tidak charging, hal ini seringkali ditemukan pada charger kw untuk Dell, meski beberapa diantara charger kw dapat mengisi batre. Pernah juga saya temukan charger Toshiba yang hanya bisa menyala dengan spek tertentu saja, watt nya diatas sedikit saja maka, malah ga bisa masuk windows, tapi charger yang precise itu terlalu mahal meskipun itu orisinil.


Seharusnya konsorsium produsen laptop segera melakukan standarisasi tipe colokan/plug adaptor/charger supaya setiap laptop memiliki colokan yang sama dan kita sebagai konsumen tidak dipersulit untuk mencari charger original, karena dengan standarisasi bentuk colokan, charger untuk Asus misalnya dapat digunakan juga di laptop Dell atau sebaliknya. Dengan cara ini charger laptop menjadi bersifat universal karena itu harga bisa ditekan sehingga produsen tidak perlu lagi mengeluarkan biaya tinggi untuk diferensiasi charger mereka dan konsumen akan diuntungkan tentunya dengan turunnya harga sparepart yang vital ini.


Tapi dari sudut pandang produsen laptop, hal ini merupakan penopang bisnis mereka, dengan menjual sparepart charger ada ketergantungan konsumen kepada service center mereka dan dengan dibuat bentuk colokan yang unik, harapan mereka memimalisasi replikasi/kloning yang menjadi lahan bisnis bagi perusahaan elektronik lainnya. Namun pada kenyataannya banyak replika di pasaran, meski tidak sebaik ori kualitasnya. Charger original kadang-kadang menjadi mahal karena stok barang yang sedikit dan akhirnya konsumen memilih membeli charger kw yang mudah didapat dan lebih murah, dalam beberapa kasus, konsumen terpaksa membelinya dikarenakan charger original tidak tersedia di service center kalau pun ada waktu indent terlampau menyita waktu. Hal ini merugikan konsumen karena akibat penggunaan charger kw, ada resiko pendeknya umur batre, adanya ketidakstabilan output voltase, efeknya degradasi komponen motherboard laptop. Relatif kualitas charger kw lebih rendah karena lebih simpel, baik komponen dan desainnya yang menyebabkan charger panas dan bahkan berpotensi menyulut kebakaran dikarenakan kualitas kabel yang rendah.

Kembali ke charger HP tadi, cukup unik juga, minggu lalu pada saat saya memiliki 2 buah stok original, 18.5V 3.5A di spek outputnya, lalu saya coba ukur voltase masing-masing tip, juga dengan charger kw yang saya miliki, sama-sama di test. Charger ini memiliki 3 output, pertama bagian terluar lingkaran (-), lalu bagian lingkaran dalam (+) di 19,2 Volt dan di bagian jarum (+) 13.8 Volt, lalu saya uji lagi charger lainnya / masih ori juga, ternyata di bagian jarum berbeda, hanya 9 Volt, memang keduanya saya dapatkan dari waktu yang berlainan, kemudian saya test juga voltase keluaran charger kw, berbeda, lingkar terluar negatif (-), kemudian 18,7 Volt pada inner dan pada tip/pin(+) 7,5 Volt dan lainnya keluaran di bagian tip/jarum berada di 7,9 Volt dan 6.5 Volt.

Sungguh unik charger ini, memang HP sendiri (begitu juga dengan merek terkenal lainnya) menganjurkan penggunaan charger original & service di tempat resmi, tapi kadang-kadang kita butuh waktu cepat karena data-data di laptop biasanya urgent jadi kalau harus indent lama-lama malas juga yang mau beli charger sehingga terpaksa beli yang kw lagi pula harganya jauh lebih murah meski beresiko.

Karena perbedaan voltase yang berlainan ini akhirnya gugling ketemu juga, ini dia berita terkait yang saya temukan, disini dan disini

Saya pun mencoba membuka charger HP jarum 65 watt yang rusak, ternyata voltase di pin/jarum bersumber dari keluaran sebuah dioda kecil / semacam zener atau semisal dioda 1N914 yang berasal dari center tap modifikasi di output karena ampere nya kecil sekali, jadi dipergunakan untuk sensor kestabilan pengisiian batre dan dari sinilah perkiraan sumber penyebab laptop menjadi lambat, karena processor memantau terus output ini secara hardware. Wallohu'alam.

GarraLube 757 Superior Engine Oil is formulated for extended drain service in the most demanding applications requiring API Service Category CJ-4/SM, as well as, the latest OEM's (Original Equipment Manufacturers) for engine specification manufacturer technologies such as the EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation), ACERT (Advanced Combustion Emission Reduction Technology) and DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) technology, as well as, other exhaust after treatment devices. At the same time, they continue to provide long drain service in conventional engines by promoting longer engine life and reduced component wear by providing higher oil film thickness, better wear performance and improved oxidation control at higher temperatures. API CJ-4 delivers improved soot-handling and shear stability performance in all engines.

Oil Change

GarraLube 757 Superior Engine Oil is recommended to be changed every 20,000 km for automotive engines (vol 4 - 6 litres) and every 10,000 hours for generating sets (vol 20+ litres).
